Buddy

What Buddy can do, how to use it, what it does for you and where its conversations live

Buddy is MeinGPT's built-in helper. It answers questions about the platform, shows you step by step where to find things, and does tasks directly for you, for example creating an assistant or renaming a project.

Opening Buddy

  • Click the round Buddy face at the bottom right. Buddy opens as a side panel to the right of the page you are on.
  • In a normal chat, the AI can hand a topic over to Buddy when it is about using MeinGPT, such as how a feature works or how to create an assistant. Buddy then opens with a summary of the chat.
  • Buddy knows which page you are on and reads the visible text of that page. You don't have to explain where you are.

Note

Buddy is only available if it is enabled for your workspace and you have a seat. If you don't see the Buddy face, contact your workspace admins.

The three modes

At the top of the Buddy panel, choose under Buddy mode how Buddy helps you. Your choice is saved.

  • Auto (default): Buddy decides. It answers questions, walks you through the app when you ask "Show me how …", and carries out clear requests directly.
  • Learn: Buddy shows you the steps in the app. A pointer visibly clicks and types on the page and explains each step in one sentence. While Buddy controls the page, it has a coloured frame. Stop it with Stop, the Escape key or by closing the panel.
  • Act: Buddy does the task directly for you without showing you the steps. If it can't do something directly, it tells you.

What Buddy can do

Answer questions and navigate

Buddy searches the MeinGPT documentation and answers based on it. It knows every MeinGPT page visible to your role and can open it for you.

Do tasks for you

Buddy always works with your own permissions. It can only change what you are allowed to change yourself.

  • Assistants: create, open, change, delete and mark as favourite. Buddy opens a newly created assistant directly in the editor.
  • Chats: search your chats, create, rename, delete, mark as favourite and move into a project.
  • Projects: create, open, rename, change colour and icon, set project instructions and delete.
  • Prompt library: search, create, change and delete prompts and folders.
  • Scheduled tasks: create, change, switch on and off, run now, delete and view past runs, if scheduled tasks are enabled in your workspace.

Workspace admins can also hand Buddy many administration tasks, for example managing teams and invitations, enabling models and tools, retrieving usage and credit reports, adjusting workspace settings or answering members' support tickets. If a member asks for an admin task, Buddy refers them to the responsible person in the workspace.

Confirmation before important actions

Before Buddy deletes something, changes or shares an assistant, or runs another action with consequences, it shows a card Buddy wants to run this action. The action only runs once you click Approve. Cancel discards it. An approval is valid once and expires after 10 minutes.

Suggestions

If the feature is enabled in your workspace, Buddy shows a bubble next to its face with things it can do for you on the current page. Hide suggestions hides the bubble. To switch suggestions off permanently, use the Page suggestions toggle under Buddy in your personal settings.

Action history

The history icon in the Buddy panel (Action history) shows the changes Buddy made for you, with the 50 newest entries. Only you see your history. Pure lookups, such as a search, don't appear there, and neither do the conversations themselves.

  • Revert undoes many changes, for example a renamed project, a changed prompt or a deleted chat.
  • If Buddy created something, Revert deletes it again. MeinGPT asks you first.
  • Deleted assistants, projects, prompts, folders and scheduled tasks can't be restored, and neither can favourites or running a scheduled task immediately.
  • If an item was edited again after Buddy's change, the change can no longer be reverted.

Attention

In Learn mode, Buddy clicks in the app just like you do. Whatever it changes that way does not appear in the action history and can't be reverted there.

Workspace admins also see settings changes Buddy made in the audit log, marked "Buddy".

Where Buddy conversations live

Conversations with Buddy are not normal chats. They don't appear under "Recent Chats" in the sidebar, on the Chats page or in Universal Search.

  • The Buddy panel always shows your current conversation. It is kept when you close the panel or reload the page.
  • The plus icon (New conversation) starts a new conversation.
  • A new conversation also starts when a topic is handed over to Buddy, for example from a normal chat or through one of its suggestions.
  • Earlier conversations can't be reopened in the interface. If you want to keep a conversation, have it in a normal chat or with an assistant.
  • Buddy only understands text. You can't attach files.

Costs and data

  • Conversations with Buddy count towards your usage limit and are billed like normal chats. The Buddy panel points this out.
  • Buddy reads the visible text of the page you are on. It only accesses your chats through chat search when a task requires it.
  • Your workspace admins choose the model Buddy answers with.

For admins: setting up Buddy

In the workspace settings under Buddy you set:

  • Enable Buddy: shows or hides Buddy for all members. If permission rules are active, you can also limit Buddy to specific teams or members here.
  • Face animation: switches the movements of Buddy's face on or off.
  • Buddy model: the AI model Buddy answers with. You can choose from the models enabled in your workspace that can use tools. Default leaves the choice to MeinGPT.
  • Buddy cost: actual Buddy usage over the last 30 days, per user per month and in total.

Whether Buddy is available for your workspace at all is decided by MeinGPT. If the Buddy entry is missing from the settings, contact your MeinGPT contact person.
