Founders' letterMunich and Berlin

Where we come from and what we stand for.

We believe AI can make the strengths of the Mittelstand even greater. This letter sets out where we come from, what we see, what we believe – and what you can expect from us.

Who we are

MeinGPT began long before it had that name: in our school years in Unterhaching, at Jugend forscht and with a first product of our own. Stand-Bye! was an intelligent energy-saving mode for Windows. In 2017 the four of us founded SelectCode – Florian was 18 at the time. We deliberately did not name the company after that first product. SelectCode was meant to be a place for many ideas, not just one.

Florian studied computer science at TU München alongside, and for a long time our team was made up mostly of TUM working students. Our first office in Munich was a small room; after the first round of hiring we had to bring in camping tables. For years we built software for customers, early on with AI as well. That was deliberately our school: it is where we learned how good digital products come about – close to real workflows and to people who have to work with them again the next morning.

In 2023, with MeinGPT, we returned to where it all began: a product of our own. This time with everything we had learned in the years in between.

What we see

In many companies AI is still a playground today. Everyone tries something, but hardly anything goes into production. There are many tools, but no common line. Many pilots, but little impact. And many employees whom nobody has ever shown what AI can do for their own work.

We say this without reproach. Trying things out was right: if you never experiment, you never find anything. On the playground, many teams learned what AI can and cannot do. Now is the moment to turn that into operations. That is why our mission is: we take AI in the Mittelstand from the playground into production – sovereign, step by step and with measurable impact.

What we believe

The German-speaking Mittelstand stays world-class – in the age of AI, too.

That is our vision, and we mean it. Today the Mittelstand is world-class in industry, quality and specialisation. AI will decide whether it stays that way. We make sure it plays even further ahead.

Why are we so confident? Anyone can use language models today. The knowledge that makes AI truly valuable is not on the internet. It lives in your processes, your products, your machine data, your customer relationships and in decades of experience. And nobody improves what already exists as carefully and step by step as the Mittelstand. That is exactly how AI becomes productive inside a company.

For us, that includes a Europe that acts from strength, not from isolation. The Mittelstand has always built excellent things on foundations bought in from others. AI is no different: we use the best models in the world, wherever they come from. And we work to make sure you stay in control – of your data, of your choice of models and of not becoming dependent. Open models and European infrastructure are real options here, not a fallback. To us, sovereignty means choice and control instead of dependency, not a particular server location.

This is not about us. It is about you winning.

AI and people

We are neither AI enthusiasts nor AI cynics. AI should expand what people can do: make tasks possible that used to lack the time or the knowledge. To us, it is not a job-cutting programme.

That requires people to keep their judgement. AI may prepare, execute and remind. Where consequences cannot easily be undone, people decide.

AI skills must not be a privilege. We want to bring everyone along – the apprentice building an assistant for the first time as much as the colleague who has known every special case for decades. Bringing people along does not mean pushing them. It means everyone gets a reachable next step and a say in the decision.

And we are honest about the costs. AI uses energy, it makes mistakes and it can create dependencies – on providers as much as in your own work. We talk about that openly, even when it is uncomfortable.

Our promise

Measure us by our impact.

Before we start, we agree with you what should improve – processing time or quality, for example. Then we check the result. And if a use case does not deliver its benefit, we say so openly. The number of chats, licences or pilots is not success to us. Success is when something in your operations works noticeably better. We are not yet as good at this everywhere as we want to be – but that is exactly what we are building.

Along the way, the knowledge should move to you instead of staying with us. We build the first use case. We build the second one together. From the third on, you build it yourselves.

An invitation

We are growing strongly – and investing in our platform, in personal guidance and in our customers' success. Since August 2026 we have been at home in Berlin as well as in Munich. One thing should stay the same: that we stay close to you and to your work.

If you want to take AI in your company from experiments into operations, talk to us. Tell us about the workflow that costs you the most time. That is where we start.

We look forward to hearing from you.
