A workflow runs a recurring AI task as a fixed process that a person starts deliberately. Variables describe the information that changes with each run. Reference documents and fixed instructions remain stored in the workflow.
Multiple steps run in a defined sequence and can reuse results from previous steps. The model and optional web search can be configured for each step. The determines whether the result appears in chat or is passed on as a file or structured JSON. Users see the required inputs before starting and review the result after the run.
A workflow is therefore suited to stable processes with changing data, not tasks whose goal emerges in conversation. For open-ended work, AI Chat remains more flexible. If the process should start without user action from an email, webhook, or schedule, connect it to an automation; Automations are currently in private beta.
