The meinGPT Outpost — a desktop application for Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon) and Linux that makes your files and services usable without them leaving the building
The meinGPT Outpost is an application with a graphical interface that you install on a machine in your network — for Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon) and Linux. It is not a server component somebody has to roll out: you install it, release folders and services, and meinGPT can use them. Your files are not copied to the cloud.
Early Access — free to try
The Outpost is in Early Access. It is usable day to day and we ship quickly — expect frequent updates, and expect individual screens to keep changing.
Trying it costs nothing: 100 documents and one service are free. That is a preview, not a plan — it is enough to verify the installation and watch the Outpost work end to end: release a folder, let it index, run a search, see the hit in a chat. What is new about the Outpost
Files and services. An Outpost does more than make documents searchable; it also connects services that are reachable on the machine: databases in your own network and local MCP servers. Files answer "what do we have written down about this?", services answer "what does the system say right now?" — both through the same Outpost, under the same permissions.
A complete rebuild of the former DataVault. The predecessor ran as a set of containers. It took real effort to set up, caused recurring trouble in operation — updates nobody applied, services that did not come back up after a restart — and it demanded operations knowledge that a mid-sized IT team does not have going spare. Those teams were exactly who it was built for. So instead of patching it further, we rebuilt it: as an application that installs, pairs and updates itself.
Everything is inside the application. Server, search index and an embedding model that runs offline all come with the installer. There is no database to operate, no containers, no configuration file you maintain by hand — and after setup, no manual update step.
Still running the previous generation?
It does not keep running; it has to be moved over. Because the embedding model, the database and the indexer are all new, your data is re-indexed in the process; your original files are unaffected. Note
In the ordinary case you do not need an Outpost at all: data sources can be connected in meinGPT directly, without running a machine of your own. An Outpost is worth it when files or systems must not leave the building.
