This guide explains step by step how to install and set up the meinGPT Outlook add-in. The add-in brings the meinGPT platform directly into Outlook so you can summarize email threads, ask follow-up questions, and draft replies.

The two can be used independently — the add-in doesn't replace the connector, and vice versa.
- Supported versions: Outlook on the web, Outlook for Windows (classic and new), and Outlook for Mac
- Your organization may allow or restrict add-ins. If an option is missing, check with your IT team or a Microsoft 365 admin.
- A meinGPT API key is required to sign in to the add-in. The API is an Enterprise feature and must be enabled for your organization – if it isn't, the meinGPT API menu entry under Account won't be there; in that case contact enterprise@meingpt.com or a workspace admin.
Note: Depending on the Microsoft Store or Outlook language, the add-in may appear as meinGPT or myGPT. If one name does not show up in search, try the other variant as well.
- Open Outlook.
- In the top bar, go to More Apps and then Get Add-ins.
- Search for meinGPT.
- Open the add-in and select Add.
- Optional: In the message view, open More Apps and pin meinGPT to the toolbar for faster access.
- Open File -> Manage Add-ins. This opens add-in management in the browser.
- Open the Store / AppSource.
- Search for meinGPT and select Add.
- Open Tools -> Get Add-ins.
- Search for meinGPT.
- Select Add.
Note: After installation, meinGPT appears in the read or compose surface under Apps / More Apps or as its own ribbon icon. Use Pin to keep it visible.
Microsoft 365 admins can deploy the add-in centrally:
- Open the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
- Go to Settings -> Integrated apps -> Add-ins.
- Select Deploy Add-in.
- Choose AppSource as the source and search for meinGPT.
- Assign the add-in to all users, specific groups, or selected users.
- Review the configuration and complete the deployment.
After that, the add-in appears automatically in the Outlook clients of the assigned users.
- Create an API key in meinGPT: from the user menu in the lower-left corner, open Profile Settings and select meinGPT API under Account.
- Select an email. The add-in only works when a message is selected.
- Select Open chat. The very first time you open it, the add-in shows its own API key field – paste the key you created in step 1 there and confirm with Save & Continue.
If the key is reset or recreated in meinGPT, the add-in does not pick that up automatically – the old key stays stored locally. In the add-in, open the settings icon at the top and select Logout to clear the stored key. The add-in then shows the entry screen from step 3 again, where you paste the new key.
- Restart Outlook and make sure all Outlook windows are fully closed first.
- Check whether the add-in is enabled under Manage Add-ins.
- On company-managed devices, confirm with IT whether policies or restrictions are blocking the add-in.
- Open File -> Options -> Add-ins.
- Under Manage, choose COM Add-ins and then Go....
- Enable the checkbox for the add-in and confirm with OK.
- If Outlook offers it, select Always enable.
- First check whether the currently valid API key is actually stored in the add-in: open the settings icon in the add-in -> Logout, then paste the key again. A key that was reset or recreated in meinGPT is not picked up by the add-in automatically.
- Check under Account -> meinGPT API in meinGPT that the key still exists and wasn't deleted in the meantime.
- Note the exact error message and status code shown in the add-in (e.g. "status 401", "status 402") – this helps support narrow down the cause. 401 points to a wrong or missing key, 402 to an exhausted credit balance (see Credits system); forward other codes to support.
- Access: The add-in only accesses the current message when you actively open it or trigger an action.
- Transmission: Content is only sent to meinGPT when you start a meinGPT action, such as a summary or reply draft.
- Privacy: As usual, processing with the AI models remains GDPR-compliant.
