Connect local folders and file shares
Index approved folders or SMB shares on an Outpost and search them from meinGPT.
The meinGPT Outpost can index an approved local folder or SMB share and make its documents searchable from meinGPT. The folder location exists only on the Outpost, while access to the resulting data source is managed in meinGPT.
Share a folder on the Outpost and choose whether requests may release extracted text only or also original files. The Outpost reads subfolders and detects new, changed and deleted files on later runs. Network shares can be mounted or connected through SMB.
- Source
- Local folders and files
- Capability
- Index and search approved local documents
- Connection
- Folder access by the Outpost process or a dedicated read-only SMB service account
- Data residency
- Source files and the search index remain on the Outpost; the release level is set on the device
Source, permissions, and data residency are documented separately for each connector.
Typical workflows
- Search network drives
- Summarize document sets
- Keep local knowledge current
What the integration makes possible
01
Search network drives
Ask questions across approved files and return the relevant source path.
02
Summarize document sets
Combine information from several local documents into a structured overview.
03
Keep local knowledge current
Detect new, changed and removed files on subsequent indexing runs.
Review the prompt and result openly
Summarize the latest decisions in the Atlas project folder and list the source files.
Result
The budget is approved and supplier B is preferred. Sources are minutes-2026-05.pdf and supplier-review.xlsx.
Does this connection fit your use case?
We clarify the source, permissions, and connection required for the concrete use case. If the existing integration fits, you can move straight to setup afterwards.
Security and operations
Use a dedicated read-only account, share only the required folder and set the release level on the Outpost. meinGPT cannot broaden that device-side setting.
Known limitations
- 01Early Access. Access is defined by the shared folder or service account and does not automatically mirror every end-user file permission.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, if the share is permanently mounted for the Outpost process or configured through the SMB source.
